Secrets of the Big Dogs: Steven Wagenheim Tracks Them
Today, the one and only Steven Wagenheim, A.K.A "Mr. Consistency", talks about the importance of ad tracking.
Steven Wagenheim:

Hi:
This time I want to cover ad tracking. I can't stress how important this is for several reasons. First of all you want to know which ads you've written are working and which ones are not.
The only way to do this is to use a different ad tracking URL for each ad. Using the same URL for each ad won't tell you anything about the effectiveness of the ads. I know this may seem like a lot of work but in the end it will pay off.
The best way to explain how to do this is with an example of exactly what I do. As you know you can't use Adminder's URL directly in your ads any longer. So what you're going to have to do is one of two things.
(1) Sign up with a URL tracking service that will let you have more than one tracking URL. Preferably as many as 31, one for each day of the month.
(2) Your other option is to get your own domain name, get a hosting service, write your own tracking system and use it. This is actually what I have done being a web programmer. This may be too much work for you so you might want to stick with option 1.
Write your ad and assign it to your first tracking URL. See how it does. If it does not do well then scrap it. If it does do well, make a note of which ad it was including the tracking URL and put it aside for future use. Do NOT delete the ad.
Don't run the ad longer than 3 days even if it does well. Ads get old fast. Write a new ad at least every 3 days. Each time you see an ad do well put it aside. Do this until you have 31 ads that have done well for you. Why? Because now you NEVER have to write another ad. Just run these 31 ads, 1 for each day of the month, each month from that point on. Running each one only 1 day they will never get old. People won't remember an ad from one month to another if they only saw it for 1 day.
There you have it. You have 31 ads that made sales, you never have to write another ad, and you have good ads to run for as long as you're promoting your business. You should make sales consistently.
Just make sure you assign each ad to a different tracking URL. The reason for this is you still want to see if at some point an ad loses its effectiveness. It shouldn't. But if it does you only have to replace 1 ad instead of having to write a new one every 3 days. It's still a lot less work in the long run.
Sincerely,
Steven Wagenheim
