Secrets of the Big Dogs: Search for Killer Markets
First of all, I have dug up a Training Site from the past that you need to check out. Yes, much of the information is outdated, but some of it is priceless and timeless. Here it is:
http://web.archive.org/web/20041014221516/www.jwalkerweb.com/training.htm
I copied and pasted the following passage from the site. It worked in the past and it works today, and it will work in the future:
1. We use all the C.H.I.P's
2. We mail everyday
3. We track our ads through Adminder (some of you are using ROIBOT - which is fine)
4. When we are NOT getting response or Sales - We change our Ads - We Do Not Get Mad
5. We send our ebook buyers a "thank you/welcome" email.
6. We follow up with Everyone
7. We help those who are struggling
8. We constantly search for more ways to advertise.
So, please thoroughly check out the site above and add it to your Favorites, so that you can easily get to it whenever you need to.
On that note, let's look into number 8, "We constantly search for more ways to advertise."
A business is like a person, it needs to be in a constant state of growth. So, as marketers, we need to constantly be looking for, and testing new markets. The pace that we do this is entirely up to us. Some of us will move at a snails' pace, while others move like a cheetah. What is important is that we keep moving forward, rather than staying put.
One of the legends of the past is Tom Bell. Here is what Stan wrote about him some time ago:
"a hearty Big Dogs salute to Tom "The Admiral" Bell who, with 152 ebook sales in his first WEEK, is also our number one Dog for the entire MONTH!"
While I was surfing online, I came across an ad for a seminar in which Tom Bell would be participating. Here is the description of what he would be teaching at the seminar:
"How to change the sandbox. This a term Tom uses to explain how to capitalize on hidden profits where others are too short-sighted to see them. One way Tom has done this is taking a product that was proven in one marketplace and transferred it over to another one for big profits."
In my opinion, this is what is exciting about marketing. It is about finding new markets, that others have ignored, and then penetrating them, and being richly rewarded for your efforts. Don't get me wrong, there are more unproductive markets than productive ones. The trick is finding markets with good potential.
But, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. As I wrote in a previous letter,
The first step is to follow Stan's plan to the letter. Doing this will allow you to gather valuable statistical data as you develop your copywriting skill. You may think that all of your ads are great, but Adminder and Clickbank get a vote too. They may, in fact, vote down most of your ads. But inevitably, if you follow Stan's plan, a handful of ads will rise to the top. These ads are your "Email Ads of Gold", as Chris Gibson calls them. They have a closing ratio of 2% or higher.
Once you have your handful of golden ads, you have the means to succeed at this program.
I think perhaps you may have missed what I just said, so I'll say it again.
Once you have your handful of golden ads, you have the means to succeed at this program.
Let me explain how you can do exactly what I am doing. Okay, now you have a few ads that have been tested and proven effective by the C.H.I.P. system. So what do you do now, lay them to rest forever? Don't even think about it! You have been diligently working on your copywriting for a reason--to produce ads such as these--ads that are capable of producing many, many, many sales.
Your test market has proven that these are killer ads, so now all you have to do is run them in other responsive markets, and you will make more sales.
Theoretically, all you need is one great ad. You would then, keep moving it to other responsive markets, and keep the sales rolling in. But in reality, having several great ads is a must. This allows you to rotate your ads--which lets you easily penetrate responsive markets with your campaign of killer ads. You see, launching several great ads into a responsive market quickly builds your reputation and credibility; this builds momentum for you, as your prospects begin to desire your offer more and more as their trust in you grows.
The trick is finding markets with good potential. You want to reach the same kinds of people that you are reaching with the C.H.I.P system. One responsive market that I discovered is reaching people in safelists by sending solo ads to their contact email addresses. Not all safelists offer this service, but some do.
When looking for markets to test, consider every clue you can find. Read the testimonials that other advertisers have posted. Are people marketing offers similar to yours using this service? How big is the list? Are the list members rewarded for visiting your site? Is the list growing? The main thing that you must consider is, are the people that I want to reach here or somewhere else? Are the claims too good to be true? Do your instincts tell you that this is a good market that other Alpha Dogs have not found? Like everything, you will get better at evaluating potential markets, with practice. So, if you can afford to, and you have some great ads, start getting your feet wet today!
On that note, it's about time to finish this issue--as I like to keep these letters short and sweet. But another thing I like to do is to save the best for last. Below you will find a list of the actual responsive markets that I have discovered so far. I have listed them based on the level of responsiveness that I am getting at the present time. #1 is the most responsive and #7 is the least responsive. Understand that things change quickly online. What works one week, may not work the next week. So please don't get mad at me if you don't get similar results. We all must experiment and test to discover what works for us. Here they are:
#1. DSA solo ads to 50,000 contact email addresses.
